April/May 2008
April Overview:
Saturn retrograde and Pluto have been in trine aspect since the beginning of the year and will continue to do so until July/Aug. Due to Pluto’s retrograde tour, which begins Apr 1, these two planets will come as close as they will to perfecting aspect, holding tight within a 2 degree orb through May 2, when Saturn stations direct and starts to pull away from Pluto. By July/Aug the orb will have grown beyond what is traditionally considered standard for the trine aspect (opinions greatly vary on this point.)
Retrograde planets intensify the inner journey; greater awareness re the internal structure or internal workings of the planet’s energy and expression becomes well ignited. With the Saturn/Pluto retrograde trine aspect reaching its maximum effectiveness, April offers a prime time for retooling the cogs. Pluto in Capricorn’s depositor is Saturn, Saturn in Virgo’s depositor is Mercury; and as such, Mercury’s movements are key. Mercury’s tour of Aries, to April 17, can fire up initiative and set faster wheels in motion; this is a heating up or inflaming influence. Mercury’s tour of Taurus, April 17 to May 2 offers a fertile couple of weeks; activities are likely to be especially lucrative, something of substance and/or lasting value (material or emotional) can be created, amassed, anchored, or gained. Mercury’s tour of Gemini (May 2 through mid July) occurs while the Saturn/Pluto trine aspect orb widens. As final depositor of the Saturn in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn string, Mercury will continue as a key planetary influence. While Mercury tours Gemini, added factors or alternatives can crop up. Note, Mercury’s retrograde cycle begins at the end of May.
Observe and you will see how inner and outer accessing is operating on two distinct levels. Saturn trine Pluto can provide a time cushion or lucrative holding steady plateau; external status quos/structures can be maintained (plus or minus) while inner, private, or underground restructuring and refortification is actively underway. Those who run the show out there in the business, government, or political worlds are likely to be even busier nailing down the hatches, just as we are in our private life journeys. It’s a time to work on strategies and game plans.
Within the Saturn and Capricorn archetype exists a deeply internalized anxiety to maintain control and a deeply rooted fear of losing hard won ground. The Pluto process is one of focusing on the weak links in the system, and of empowerment through using any and all advantages. Considering these root cause motivations as an ignition point, we can easily see how this Saturn/Pluto trine, intensified by retrograde, can spur ambition and industriousness, and also ignites a higher propensity for engineering or manipulation.
April is an opportunity month, even if/when internal unrest or necessity is the catalyst. Note that Eris, goddess of discord, is at 21 degrees of Aries. (Eris will engage in the following aspects: Sun conjunct, April10; Mercury conjunction, April 13; Venus conjunction, April 21; Pallas conjunction April 29; Jupiter by square through most of April; Mars by square April 22/23. Eris in conjunction to Venus forms the apex of T-Square as Mars and Jupiter oppose, an igniting or mobilizing configuration likely to stay highly energized from April 19 -26.
In Capricorn through end of June, Pluto is also square to the Aries point, which can add just that much more intensity or urgency to undertakings.
Between April 15 and the very potent Full Moon on April 20, the Sun and Mercury will move from a trine to the South Node to fill the missing angle of the earth triad (the Saturn/Pluto trine). Venus will do the same, harmonizing first with the South Node on April 24 and then moving on to complete the earth triad, perfecting trine aspect by May 1. Potentials and advantages are greatly enhanced from the Full Moon through the end of April.
MAY:
Mercury, dispositor of Saturn moves into Gemini on May 2, the same day that Saturn stations direct. Circumstances will naturally move on to the next level, still, with Mercury’s quincunx to Pluto and it’s building square to Saturn, new options or secondary considerations can cause added complication or inconvenience. Venus in Taurus launches the month by filling in the missing angle of the earth triad (Saturn/Pluto trine). We can find it easy to stay the course and/or to invest even more (whether complacency or ambition is the driving force.) On another note, watch what crops up; you may find it/them be of use or to provide an advantage.
May 5 is a Super New Moon, so watch for intensified weather patterns; note that Sedna, the sea-goddess, sitting at 20:28 Taurus, trines Jupiter in Capricorn and conjuncts this Super New Moon. Also, watch for “high tides” re Taurean matters: finances, survival issues, sexuality, fertility; relationship needs, self-respect, self worth; establishing continuity, holding on to what you have. A super charged couple of weeks lies ahead.
Mars ingresses into Leo on May 9; on this same day that Jupiter in Capricorn stations retrograde. Jupiter in Capricorn retrograde changes the way we align with external authority, rules, or guidelines. Jupiter in Capricorn retrograde also raises conflict with inner conditionings or the inner judge; positively, it can help us to sort out the truth behind why we feel “should”.
Mars in Leo, relative to Jupiter in Capricorn retrograde can ignite an independence bid. Perhaps it’s time to ditch the corporate job in favor of running your own show, or to step out from the shadows of anyone that blocks your light. On the world stage, we could see the spotlight shine on an industry leader, a rule breaker, or famous one who stands apart from the rest.
Eris continues it’s square relationship with Jupiter, suggesting inconsistencies abound; staying true to the course or vision can be more challenging now.
The compelling Full Moon occurring on May 19 across very last degrees of the Scorpio/Taurus polarity could launch an empowering step forward or bring a significant culmination chapter; there could be deep soul to soul merging or the joining of forces in some other profound way. Conversely, the Full Moon could bring a striking overturn or a deep plummet. Financial and/or emotional power struggles, loss, survival/extinction, sexual, betrayal, or trust issues can consume our attention. Watch money markets for dramatic activity or mergers. Note that this Full Moon is squared by Saturn, suggesting shortages, shortfalls, doubt, suspicion, and dissatisfaction can cause extra anxiety; we may not be as secure or conversely, as locked-in as we have previously estimated. Saturn in Virgo can bring work/job and health related problems (and also concern over pets or animals.)
Immediately following the Full Moon, the Sun ingresses into Gemini on May 20; news, information or people start to circulate; fresh ideas or avenues can begin to percolate. On the other hand, while the Sun squares Saturn; it can be difficult to reach out or fathom the idea of taking on any more. Venus in Gemini, starting May 24, brings more socializing, sharing, buying and selling. Pay extra attention to details, body language and nuances.
Mercury is in trine to Neptune as they both station retrograde on the same day, May 26. Mercury retrograde issues and oversights can occur with even higher frequently; watch for plenty of misunderstandings, confusion and items galore to going missing (people could too!). Make sure you lock up to avoid potential thefts, be especially careful with drugs and alcohol, and guard your health too.
Due to it’s retrograde turn, Mercury’s trine to Chiron and the North Node holds for the last ten days or so of the month. Whatever is on the go is likely to unfold or compound quickly. Great opportunity arises, opportunists can thrive. It can be easy to take in the wrong information, to misidentify or misdiagnose, or to follow the wrong people, advice, or agents. A charismatic leader, politician, talker, or promoter may mesmerize or rouse the public.
Adding to the intensity, the Moon in Aquarius conjuncts Chiron and the North Node before reaching an occultation with Neptune. It can be easy to perpetuate illusions, or to get confused or lost, to buy into advertising, media hype, fads, or group hysteria. This occultation increases attunement, with the creator self, with another, or with the collective vision. Positively, we can receive divine inspiration; it can be a great aspect for creative types, romantics, and visionaries alike.
