Forecast Overview:
Why now and what next? From Sarah Pallin swooping down out of seemingly nowhere to steal thunder from both US presidential candidates, to the collapse of Wall Street followed by the US government bailout that essentially turns a pseudo democracy into a pseudo socialist government, the question begs asking. Attention to the hastily called Canadian Federal Election and other world news have been temporarily eclipsed. Hurricane Ike’s destruction path, Southern Ossetia’s alignment with Russia, the tainted milk crisis in China that has killed four and made 53,000 children sick so far, the bombing of the Marriott in Pakistan, (Al Qaeda and the Taliban flexing their muscles again) – noteworthy headlines have been an especially long list through the month of Virgo (the crisis archetype.)
The Full Moon of Sept 15 brought the Wall Street financial catastrophe to a first peak, but note that the puzzle pieces and dynamic stars have been at work for some time –and they are not finished wreaking havoc yet, not by any means. This Full Moon was a trigger release for the recent August Eclipses. Be reminded that Eclipses commonly thrusts life into an unexpected direction; they are most effective around the time they occur (especially in the month after or before the actual eclipses) but they also continue to hold court over an extended period of time – from months to years. We have just started into the thick of it now. Interestingly, Nov 1 – 4 are critical trigger dates for the Aug 1 Eclipse (Nov 1, the transiting Sun squares the Eclipse Sun; Nov 4, the transiting Sun squares the Eclipse Mercury position.)
Re economic crisis, it is obvious that a major lynch pin has just dislodged. The proposed bailout is but a temporary band-aid, and it will be implemented during Mercury retrograde (its trickster cycle) which starts on Sept 25. Note that Wall Street’s proposed 700 billion dollar bailout band-aid will be implemented during the retrograde cycle, That it’s under way suggests that the move is only scratching the surface and that there’s more guesswork, probing, and information to come, and more strategizing to do. Perhaps we can already see some unravelling as the opposition to this manoeuvre heats up within the senate. When Mercury is retrograde, nothing meets expectations or transpires in a straightforward way. Mercury retrograde often puts the effectiveness of strategies on a short shelf-life.
The political shuffling occurring not only in the US & Canada but in many countries around the world are also quite telling. Recapping from previous forecasts, Chiron’s transit (conjunct the North Node in Aquarius) enhances and intensifies the current Eclipse cycle. Chiron’s influence exposes the deepest, most critical wounds/the central flaw in the system and in so doing rouses significant pain in the crippled gait of the collective experience/evolution. The intention in doing so is, of course, to advance the necessary correction, repair, and healing – it’s the famous no pain, no gain learning curve. Whenever Chiron is activated, it ignites the vital, the key, the substantial, the exceptional, and the extraordinary. As an agent for the collective soul’s shifting agenda, Chiron plays the forerunner position to Pluto’s (soul in motion) transit– visualize the custodian picking through the mess of nuts and bolts before the retooling mechanic arrives. Chiron calls for enlightened renegades to unite. We have no choice but to step out of the box and to take creative risks if we want to triumph in the here and now.
Regarding bigger picture perspective of both our collective and our individual private life journeys, there is no mistaking that we are poised to step over a critical threshold. Which foot hits the ground first is of utmost importance as it is this act that will strip away the alternate routes/choices and direct how tomorrow unfolds. By the end of November, Pluto will leave Sagittarius (having transited this sign since 1995) to embark on its next tour of duty, through the sign of Capricorn. This tour, lasting to 2024, is a monumental one; the effectiveness and durability of previously relied upon structures, formulas, conceptual references, and safeguards will be greatly tested. Most of these structures are already listed on the demolition agenda. Pluto in Capricorn will set to work on restructuring everyday reality and you can bet that no stone will be left unturned. The sting of our collective enmeshment, of time running out, and our growing indebtedness to our future will pierce yet more layers as the coming weeks, months and years unfold.
Pluto in Capricorn brings an entire evolutionary chapter to closure and completion, while starting construction on a new reality base. Pluto’s last visit to Capricorn coincided with a dramatic shift in the world order - the USA was born and rose to superpower status; capitalism became our global economic cornerstone. Many view the Wall Street bailout as a death-sentence for the institution of capitalism and a pronouncement for socialism and its counterpart, fascism. Note that vulnerability is the opportunist’s grab bag. With fear or greed as the primary clutch, we can easily - and unwittingly, replace one damaging system, structure, idea, program, or relationship for another. The coming Pluto in Capricorn years will both expose and unleash the corrupt.
Another key planetary influence to watch is the Saturn/Uranus pairing which forms the first of four exact opposition aspects on the US election date of Nov 4, 2008. This Saturn/Uranus opposition (effective now) will continue to be influential through summer of 2010, suggesting the next few years are life altering for all. Saturn and Uranus will meet by exact oppositions three times across the Virgo/Pisces polarity: Feb 5, 2009, Sept 15, 2009, April 27, 2010. The fourth and last opposition aspect will occur July 27, 2010 in Libra/Aries.
For those trying to hold on tight and stave off the inevitable, this instigating planetary duo is like holding on to a lit stick of dynamite. They aim to shatter through our safeguarding and illusions in order to propel the new (Uranus) reality (Saturn) into a more rapid fast forward. Today’s norms, lifestyles and status quos may be a faint history by the time this cycle completes in 2010. On the positive note, brilliant minds could set us on a solid replenishment course - science, medical, and technological advances could enhance our everyday existence tremendously (remember what the computer did for us) – that is if the newly elected governments are forward thinking policy makers. Re lost opportunity and lost freedoms, legislative chokeholds could be the nail on the coffin. Uranus is a planet of de-conditioning from crystallized rationalizations, innovation, modernization, and liberation; it also correlates to controversy, uprisings, trauma imprinting, and revolution/revolutionary times. Uranus (now in Pisces) unleashed is a reminder of how interconnected we are, at every level. Saturn in Virgo can see the small-minded or fearful with a greater ability to inhibit, squash, or even destroy progress and opportunity altogether. When polarized, this planetary duo creates fracturing of societies and capsizing of social structures, social unrest, revolts, acts of treason and terrorism, collective shockwaves and natural disasters. When complimentary (also a flavor of the opposition aspect) this planetary pairing suggests we can rise up and above, that we can invent a new reality, one that sources the unlimited potential and abundance of the living universe, that creates healing and repair not only for our individual lives, but for humanity and the planet too.
Make no mistake, our everyday life and freedoms are on the auction block. For this reason, the November 4th USA election is critically decisive for not only US citizens, but for all. Those elected will steer onto an irrevocable course. The margins for error are very narrow. I don’t usually vocalize my political opinions, but I urge all those in the US to carefully weigh your decisions. Please don’t vote away your freedom and right to choice.
Mercury retrograde (in Libra) begins Wed Sept 24 at 0:17 a.m. While this cycle can be a social one and is great for reconnections, the usual warnings are also in effect. It is not good to finalize contracts or plans during this period, put off major purchases if you can, guard health, valuables, and tongue, and double check everything you do. Libra is the sign of imbalance seeking balance; the scales can tip in reverse, turnabouts can happen, both plus and minus. Should you see buoyancy in the stock market, a bounce back or surprising improvements elsewhere, know it could be a false façade. Mercury retrograde is a temporary influence.
When Libra is emphasized, it’s not so much what you know, but who you know that counts. Appearances and advertising add up, it’s good to make yourself more visible and to put on a strong show, but don't buy into the hype. When it comes to voting, please do not make a superficial evaluation. Look deeper, keep watching, keep tuning in. Mercury completes retrograde on Oct 14, Canada's Election Day; this is a strong indicator for Harper’s re-election, perhaps with more power/seats. If you don’t want this to happen, rally a team behind you and make sure your voices are heard.
Mercury will continue in the sign of Libra through Nov 3, suggesting it will continue to a close race for the US candidates, even if the projected numbers swing back and forth. Mercury advances into the sign of Scorpio at 8am (PDT) on Nov 4, suggesting the voting results may not be what we all expect. Again, if you are a US voter, don’t leave it to chance.
The monthly forecasts will be posted at the end of the month as usual. For those in the Vancouver area, please note my following appearances:
